Concrete mixer overturns on Mthatha River Pass

Climbing up the Mthatha River Pass we found this truck that had just rolled. The driver and assistant were both OK but in a state of shock. The engine had cut out and would not restart just after starting the descent. There were also no brakes at that stage. The driver opted to drive into the high side of the cutting.

There was just enough space on the left to squeeze our vehicles through. If the whole road had been blocked it would have meant a very long backtrack.

Help was on the way.
