In response to poor road maintenance infrastructure in Mnquma Local Municipality, in particular, the road from Butterworth to Centane; MEC Xolile Nqatha convened a meeting today with all stakeholders including Municipal leadership, Taxi Industry, Traditional Leaders etc. Speaker after speaker complained about road accidents emanating from this poor road maintenance infrastructure as result, the MEC made the following commitments:
- Expediting of processes leading to the appointment of an appropriate contractor before the end of November 2022 through legal means.
- In the interim, the Department of Transport will attend to potholes and re-gravelling as soon as possible.
- He urged the municipal leadership to convene regular meetings with stakeholders as a report-back mechanism.
Subsequent to the meeting with stakeholders, the MEC met with the Thafalofefe Hospital board executive to discuss roads enabling access to the hospital. On this score, he promised to raise the matter in Minmac for SANRAL to attend to these linking roads.
