During this Youth Month, the Department is proud to announce that under the auspices of the National Youth Services (NYS) Programme, it is training 31 unemployed youth from Schmidtsdrift (19 females and 12 males) in Construction Roadworks.
Youth are trained to conduct pothole and edge break repairs, reseal and fog sprays, repair un-surfaced road shoulders and paint road markers.
The training includes the adherence to occupational health and safety standards on sites, conducting basic first aid and road safety. The training commenced during April this year and the duration is three months long.
Upon completion of the Short Skills Programme, the learners will obtain 45 credits from the full qualification of Road Construction Maintenance, NQF Level 2.
