Following the presentation and adoption of budgets for both departments, we are determined to fast-track the entry of women into the construction sector.
We are of the view that human settlements and road construction projects, which are championed by both departments with a combined budget of over R16 billion, should benefit women, who are in the majority in the province.
Flowing from above, we have convened a Women in Construction Summit as part of our efforts aimed at empowering women.
We invite members of the media to the summit scheduled as follows:
Bricklaying by the MEC and a female contractor
Time: 10h00
Venue: Pinetown, Thornwood Rehabilitation and Rectification (Project Value of R150, 4 million for a female entrepreneur)
Date: 20 August 2024
Women in Construction Summit
Time: 12h00
Venue: Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre
Date: 20 August 2024
We remain committed to reshaping the province’s economy and unlocking opportunities for millions of emerging entrepreneurs using infrastructure.
In particular, we want women-owned companies to be in the entire value chain of the construction sector.
