Earlier this morning, around 11 am, Mi7 National Group received reports that several people were left injured after a gas leak at a factory in Cato Ridge.
Several Mi7 medical teams were dispatched, including the Rapid Response vehicle sponsored by BMW Supertech as well as teams stationed at Hibiscus Hospital Cato Ridge.
Mi7 medics found that a pipe had burst on the premises, releasing chlorine gas. Along with various other service providers on scene, Mi7 medics worked to assess and stabilise employees from the factory, as well as those from neighbouring properties who had inhaled the gas.
A triage station was established and more than a dozen patients were transported by various service providers to a local hospital for further care. Additionally, several other patients were assessed and did not require hospital treatment.
The leak was managed and controlled by the factory’s response team, but Ethekwini Fire and Rescue also responded to assist.
We commend the teamwork displayed by all roleplayers involved and wish all patients a successful recovery.
