On Saturday afternoon, IPSS Medical Rescue, IPSS S&R and various other services responded to reports of a structural collapse on the R102 near King Shaka Airport.
The collapse occurred on a construction site, leaving 5 people on the ground injured, and a further 2 patients stranded, hanging from the roof in their harnesses.
One patient sustained critical injuries while being stabilised on scene, the Netcare911 Helicopter was activated to airlift the patient to a Level 1 Trauma Facility.
The remaining 4 patients on the ground sustained serious injuries and were transported to various facilities for further care.
The stranded patients were rescued using a cherry picker and rope system and brought down to waiting paramedics. Both patients were transported to the hospital in serious condition, under the care of IPSS Medical Rescue Advanced Life Support Paramedics.
