An 11-year-old Pietermaritzburg pupil was killed while sitting with his friend on the pavement outside a Northdale school when a residential wall suddenly collapsed on them.
According to community members, the boys were sitting on the roadside pavement opposite the school when the boundary wall of the property behind them collapsed. One of the pupils, a 12-year-old, barely managed to jump out of the way. He was left with a broken leg. His friend, unfortunately, suffered the full impact.
Mi7 medics declared the 11-year-old deceased on the scene. With the help of their counterparts from another service provider, Mi7 medics administered Advanced Life Support interventions to the 12-year-old before he was taken to hospital.
We pass our condolences to the loved ones of the deceased.
