ANRAL plans to invest R218 million on the resurfacing of a 50.6km stretch of the R101 national road in Limpopo. The contract is for the medium-term preservation and periodic maintenance of the R101 section 26 from Mokopane which traverses both the Waterberg and Capricorn District Municipalities.
The national roads agency hosted stakeholder engagement sessions with local businesses in Maopane and Polokwane to discuss the project
details and opportunities available for labour and local businesses. Through these engagements SANRAL endeavours to ensure inclusive participation of black South Africans in the opportunities generated by SANRAl’s annual financial investment in construction and related industries.
SANRAL has set aside 30%(R53 million) for targeted enterprises, which include youth/women-owned businesses, people with disabilities and military veterans. A further 8%(Rl 0 million) will go towards targeted labour from the communities.
Skills development forms an integral part of SANRAl’s transformation and community development policies.
This means training will be offered to empower local businesses with the right knowledge and skills to enable them to grow and bid for future projects. Various training programmes will beheld for labour as well.
Construction of the project is expected to start in September 2024 and to take place over 18 months, with completion in December 2025.
