If a road is proclaimed no one may build in the road reserve.
This is regulated in the different sets of road legislation.
The following building lines are applicable adjacent to national roads:
- 10m measured from road reserve fence (the common boundary between private property and the road reserve) for residential properties
- 20m measured from the road reserve fence for commercial properties
- 30m measured from the road reserve fence for filling stations
- 60m measured from the road reserve fence for all agricultural land
